Let the uphill battle begin.
For the third straight year, Trikke riders in Southern California will carve in the new year with the event that signals the start of the yearlong So Cal carving circuit, the MLK Ride of Long Beach, scheduled for Saturday, January 19, 2013.
Also getting underway that day is the first of a series of Lighthouse Uphill Challenge competitions, where the overall winners will be determined by a point system and named TrikkeWorld LUC Cup champions.
“Corkscrewing up that winding hill in a race against time — it’s really started to get people’s blood pumping,” said Randy Boyd, publisher of TrikkeWorld, one of the event’s sponsors. “With a yearlong competition, we’re just taking it to the next level.”
Like last November’s LSM Ride, MLK 3 will begin in the Belmont Shore area, increasing the odds of favorable wind conditions on the long, wide, uncrowded beach bike path that’s become a favorite among Trikke riders in the region.
As always, admission to the MLK Ride is one can-food item, to be donated to the Food Bank of Southern California.
