Less than a week after the 6th Annual Aliso Creek Endurance Ride in Orange County, Calif., the 4th Annual Trikkenut Endurance 100K takes place along the rustic coastline of Ventura County on Saturday, capping off what some refer to as Heaven Week or Hell Week, depending on one’s perspective.
The Ventura carve-up is the creation of endurance aficionado Claudio Pagan and consists of three 20.6-mile loops for a total of 100 kilometers, or 62.2 miles. Douguss was Amonguss at the first three V100’s and captured the action with his camera.
Here are photos from the 1st Trikkenut 100K in 2009. This ride was held in August and it was quite hot, as well as a record-setting bullthorn year, and that led to lots of flats. (To beat the heat, Claudio changed subsequent 100K’s to the second Saturday of June.)
I rode my Pon-e 36v for two circuits of the ride. I used up my battery the first circuit and had a flat the second circuit. There were a lot of Trikke luminaries present: Andy and Jana Clark, B.J. Viers, Arizona Jen, Trikke the Frozone, Lisa “LadyHawke” Hoolihan, Julie Valentine, Doc O’Zee, [Trikke inventor] Gildo Beleski, Darrick “Barbaric” Bruyn, Gina “All-Star Trikke Model” Alo, Way-Chung Wong, Kent Grasmick and Claudio among them.
This video was shot with my first GoPro (that was not HD).
There were some bullthorns that day. This clip captures some of the flavor of the ride and some legendary Trikke carvers making their moves.
Charlie Mc. passed this year. Here a some shots of her at the 2nd Annual Trikkenut 100K in 2010. It was a great ride and I became to only person to ride all 100K on a Pon-e 36v, using four batteries.
Charlie was a TrikkeTalker who was well known in the Trikke community. Most of us who have been around before the demise of TrikkeTalk know her. She was a Marine and enjoyed all aspects of the Trikke, including the Skki. She had cancer and the 2010 ride was after she had recovered a bit; but then it came back and she wasn’t able to ride again. The newbies missed out on a wonderful person.
For a longer version of the video from this ride, go here and enjoy watching Kent Grasmick, Claudio, [Trikke inventor] Gildo Beleski and Danny carve it up.
The 3rd Annual Trikkenut 100K brought some new faces out, thanks to the LSM movement. Trikke Andy and Sean Tice of SouthBay Trikke, Randy Boyd of TrikkeWorld, Juan Ortega, Wilson Wong and Laura Martinez all rode the trail for the first time. I made my first circuit on my T12, then switched to my Pon-e 48v for the final two circuits using two batteries.
My first circuit of the 100k on a T12.
The third circuit of the 100K. I’m on my Pon-e 48v, riding with Gina for the two hours it took to do it.
