Surprise election co-winner gets first-ever Academy visit.
It begins in February with the National Trikke Skki Inn and ends in October with the last Academy seminar of the year. In between, the Trikke Academy has a full lineup of events scheduled for 2013, including two firsts: a visit to the state of Texas and a weekend dedicated to the growing Trikke Tours industry.
The Trikke Academy is the institution that creates Trikke Trainers through its seminars — known as Academies — and holds riding schools and clinics for those wishing to become better Trikke riders.
Perhaps the biggest surprise on next year’s schedule: Austin, Texas, which emerged as co-winner of the Trikke Academy 2013 Location Election after coming from behind late to surpass previous frontrunner Florida, as well as two other candidates, Montreal, Canada and Chicago.
“Texas beat Florida by one application,” says Ann Pirone, Academy coordinator. “We extended the deadline, and in doing so, received applications for Texas and Chicago, which ended up pushing Texas over.”
The victory means the Lone Star State will host its first-ever Academy in April, and Austin joins co-winner Los Angeles as the two non-Las Vegas cities to hold Academies next year (with third place Florida serving as a backup location).
The other first of 2013: a Trikke Tours Academy that focuses on the worldwide electric personal vehicle (or EPV) touring business. That event will be held near Trikke Academy headquarters in Vegas, as will the majority of the institution’s events.
“Doing less traveling affords us the opportunity to focus on broadening our scope,” says Fred Welch, Academy director. “We plan to diversify what the Trikke Academy offers the carving community. Trikke Travel and a ‘tours and rentals’ business Academy are all on the agenda for 2013.”
That agenda begins in February with the 6th National Trikke Skki Inn, whose location is still to be announced, after Utah officials denied access to Trikke Skki riders. The new location could be disclosed as soon as this week, according to Welch, but either way, he’s looking forward to what 2013 holds for the Trikke Academy:
“We’re excited to be able to focus more on our new hometown of Vegas. Most people don’t know what a great, outdoor ethic we have in this town. We think Las Vegas will be a natural mecca for Trikke in the future.”
With a little luck, the future begins now.
