Biggest Halloween Trikke Ride Ever!

TrikkeWorld coverSo Cal Carvers Turn Out in Record Numbers for Trikke & Treat III

The traveling freak show known as the Trikke & Treat Halloween Ride entertained beach-goers in LA’s South Bay on Saturday, generating laughter, smiles and plenty of attention while setting an attendance record. On a day that was warm, sunny and picture-postcard perfect, thirty-three riders attended the third annual TNT, many of them in highly imaginative costumes.

Seen carving up the beaches of Redondo, Hermosa and Manhattan were Captain America, Little Red Riding Hood, the Big  Bad Wolf (in grandma’s nightgown), a Roman gladiator, a camouflaged soldier, a camouflaged bush, Batman, Robin, Waldo, Trik-kel-dee and Trik-kel-dum, Captain Kirk and a colored woman fighting hate, just to name a few of the odd assortment of characters “getting their swerve on.”

Since its inception in 2009, attendance at the Trikke & Treat has increased each year, from a dozen riders at the inaugural TNT, to 19 riders at the second annual, to this year’s thirty-three, which could be seen as an indicator of the growing carving craze in the Southern California.

Another indicator: Susie Bretting and Stan Steele dressing as Sean and Irene Tice of SouthBay Trikke, co-sponsors of the event, along with TrikkeWorld.

Yet another indicator: Jimmy Rosen of Harrisburg, PA, who along with his wife, scheduled their vacation to coincide with the Trikke & Treat.

“I enjoyed it a lot,” said Rosen in a Facebook video made during the ride. “It’s nice to see a bunch of people out here, the costumes are great and I’m glad you guys allowed me to join you.”

collageRich Goff’s “fisherman hooked on Trikke” was awarded Best Costume and Best Decorated Trikke. For his efforts he received a hydration pack (and a lot of frightful laughs over his mask of a man with hideously overgrown facial features).

Also receiving prizes were runners-up Jan Roy and Linda Roberts for their portrayal of Trik-kel-dee and Trik-kel-dum, Nikki Stevens for dressing as Waldo of Where’s Waldo fame, and Jenard de Castro for coming as a giant hand giving “the finger” to breast cancer.
