Remembering the Mountains to the Sea Ride in Ventura, Calif. [videos]

group shot

Last September, the Last Saturday of the Month Ride in Southern California took an unprecedented turn northward to Ventura County, where So Cal carvers enjoyed the LSM Mountains to the Sea Ride, followed by a barbecue picnic by the sea in Ventura. Among the attendees, several Northern California Trikke riders, and yes, Douguss was Amonguss. Here  now, his reflections and videos from that day.

I love the Mountains to the Sea Ride because it starts from Ojai, where I lived back in the 70s, and goes downhill, mostly to Ventura along the Sea while incorporating all of the easiest parts of the Trikkenut 100k Endurance ride.

Some parts of the Ventura River Trail  above the turnaround for the Trikkenut 100k  mean some hard uphill climbing. But going toward Ventura means a nice downhill carve. There’s a new bridge over the Ventura River I haven’t seen since last year’s ride because it wasn’t built yet, but it goes over the most treacherous part of the trail.

This is a great ride for folks who aren’t up to the rigors of the Trikkenut 100k but would like to see the route. There are still some challenges along the way, especially if road surfaces are one of your problem areas. I highly recommend this ride for any Trikke rider.
