Mischievous Zeus

Hi! My name is Zeus and I am the Trikke-O-Babbler’s new T12. She adopted me a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t be happier. My previous owner loved me but didn’t have time to use me as often as I would have liked. Plus, he thought he was Evel Knievel and tried to do stunts he wasn’t ready to do yet. I feel kinda bad for dropping him on his butt a time or two, but I got my point across: I am a whole lotta Trikke, and when you come for me, you’d best come with respect.

Anyway, the Babbler and I have been out on a few rides now. She’s having a tough time getting the hang of conquering hills with me but she’ll get there. She really flies on the straightaways and we enjoy seeing the looks on the people’s faces when we round blind corners (hardly anyone here has seen a Trikke before).

Elise Bennett and her Trikker, Zeus, show a new rider how to lean into the carve.

My new owner is pretty tall (like me), so we make a pretty imposing couple. When we came out from under a bridge the other day, this kid on a bike actually dropped his jaw, ran off the path, and took a header into the dirt because he was staring at us and not looking where he was going. I didn’t laugh out loud (because that would be bad form, and I am a dignified fellow), but I did smile on the inside – after my owner stopped and made sure the poor guy was okay, of course.

This past weekend, the Babbler took a last-minute trip to Florida and took me with her! We took a sweet sunset ride by the Gulf. We even met a retiree who was visiting from Scotland; I could have listened to him talk all day long. I let him test drive me and he did really well. He even managed to get me up a short rise without stepping off. Impressive!

While we were down South, I even got to help teach a couple of my owner’s friends how to ride my T78 cousins. These good folks have never roller skated or skied, so they were at a bit of a disadvantage, but they did really well, considering. I’m looking forward to tearing up some beach roads with them next time we go back!

Well, I’d best sign off before the Babbler gets back from running errands … she might be less than thrilled to find out that I’ve hacked her blog. But that’s what you get when you leave a mischievous Trikke and an open laptop in the same room. (I did a pretty good job of typing with my front wheel, don’t you think?) It was nice to meet you. Until next time, carve on!

Elise Bennett About Elise Bennett

The author of TrikkeWorld’s blog, Trikke-O-Babble, Elise Bennett began riding her Trikke in 2008, as part of the rehabilitation process resulting from a disabling spinal injury. Her physical condition has improved dramatically over the years, and she now rides for pleasure (okay, that, and exercise) whenever humanly possible. She is thrilled to combine her experience with Trikkes as a rehabilitation and fitness tool, and her background in writing and the health sciences/massage therapy in hopes that she can bring a little more humor, health, and sanity to a stressed out, over-worked, “under-healthed” world – one blog at a time.

Thanks, Niki! Your feedback always makes my heart smile. *hugs* Will definitely pen a few more blogs from Zeus’ perspective in the coming months – kids often know best, you know.
