LSM Recap – September, 2012

Chicago Area Trikkers: sixteen strong on the last Saturday of September.

Plus: Wilson Wong weighs in on ‘no Trikkes’ controversy.

Here now, TrikkeWorld’s LSM Correspondent Wilson Wong on the global Last Saturday (or Sunday) of the Month Ride movement.

Double Dub checkin’ in. I apologize for being late. Some interesting news coming out of this LSM. We had a group of carvers participate in a semi-annual Rosarito Ensenada Ride. There’s a thread all about it on the Sweet Spot Annex on Facebook. The gist of it: Trikke carving vehicles are now banned from the event. Prejudice has prevailed. The claim (or complaint) is that a cyclist got hurt. The person is said to have stated that the injury occurred trying to go around a carver. I hope this person is recovering well. I heard there were many injuries at this event not involving carvers or their Trikkes.

Carving in Canada with Trikke North were Jim Lawson (front) and Leo Van Pelt.

Many issues were raised. I’m sure this debate will go on as long as we carve. Acceptance. The Streetstriders, recumbents, and Eliptigos show up and no one bats an eye, but when folks see us carving down the street, something different happens. Why? They’re not use to seeing someone having so much fun while riding!

Let’s face it, they may never get use to us being on the trails and paths, but can’t we just get along? It’s a sad day. Many riders won’t have their chance to conquer Baja hills we’ve heard about. Cyclists won’t get the chance to see impassioned riders carve up hills with skill and agility! They won’t be witness to one of the finest workout machines to ever put a smile on your face.

Part of what the LSM is about is this acceptance. To help folks get familiar with Trikke. I hope more carvers decide to “Step Up and Share.”
