Less sugar, more Trikke riding in 2013

Jeri Thompson and her TrikkeAfter some 45 days of seasonal revelry, it’s time for some changes. I don’t want to mention the “R” word here, but it’s kind of hard not to. What plans do you have for your fresh new year, 2013? Maybe a review of past resolutions and goals will help clear the way for the next wave of resolutions and goals.

My personal plans are more of the same: lose 20 pounds, carve every day, stop eating so much sugar. I haven’t practiced enough yet to win this game. It’s like when I quit smoking, I had to keep trying until I finally got it right. Practice makes perfect.

In looking at past goals I can’t help but think about some of the topics I have posted on at Trikker Chicks… that have helped me understand my body and why losing my 20 pounds, while not a large amount of weight, is a realistic goal for my year (at my age).

And yet there are so many factors going on when trying to change one’s body image. For instance, giving up sugar is a major adjustment, not only on a physical level but also on an emotional level. Many of us have treats tied in with family celebrations and with love (think Valentine’s Day). And if you don’t know sugar is a powerful drug, check out how addicting sugar really is.

One of the things I wrote about this year that surprised me the most was on portion sizes. The reality of proper size versus my idea of portion size was like the difference between a T5 and a T12. Seriously. And I know I am not alone in my delusion.

With all the debate on how to eat and what to leave off your plate, this post would not be complete without a nod to what is the most responsible for my body changes, my Trikke. I take a look at where I have been and where I am now on my path to fitness and health. I have made some huge changes in my life in association with carving. I consider myself a Trikke success, number ???

I know which direction I am headed in for the next year. It will look a lot like this year, but with more changes. I look forward to exploring those with you. Here’s to another year of carving… and may all your changes be chosen ones.
